The Shield is going out in style: The dearly departed cop drama leads the Television Critics Association Awards with four nominations.

The Shield, which ended its seven-season run in November, will battle Lost, Mad Men, Saturday Night Live and Battlestar Galactica for the coveted Program of the Year. The Shield was also nominated for best drama series, best drama acting (Walter Goggins) and the Heritage Award, which honors series that have made a cultural impact. ER, M*A*S*H, Saturday Night Live and Star Trek are the other Heritage Award nominees.

The Shield's drama-series competition includes Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights, Lost and Mad Men.

On the comedy front, TCA likes 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, The Daily Show, How I Met Your Mother and The Office. Stars from four of those shows — Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jim Parsons, Neil Patrick Harris and Steve Carell — will face off for comedy-acting honors.

Fringe, The Mentalist, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, True Blood and The United States of Tara are up for best new program.

If you’ve been paying any attention to the news in the last several weeks, you’ll know that gays are the talk of the town these days. Conservative and liberal news pundits alike seem to have a bizarre conveyer belt of never-ending guests that all seem to be experts on the gays. However, the majority of Americans aren’t watching Fox and CNN on Thursday nights—they simply don’t have time. They’re much too busy catching up with Meredith on “Grey’s Anatomy” or laughing at the antics of Dwight on “The Office.”
I’m a little bit torn, however. I love the fact I don’t have to watch “The L word” or “Will and Grace” to see a man(woman) kiss another man(woman) on TV. Part of me gets frustrated with shows that only give gay characters gay storylines. I’m sorry, but I came out almost five years ago, and while watching someone go through the same thing may bring back some lovely memories of paralyzing fear, I’m not sure I can watch another “should I, or shouldn’t I?” story arc concerning someone’s sexuality. But that could just be me. I’m just one gay in a sea of gays that eat stories like that up. I suppose there is probably some closeted kid out there who is just filled with the courage to come out to his friends and family after watching the same thing happen on “Brothers and Sister.”
My favorite shows:

Two and a Half Men Seasons 1-6 DVD Boxset
One Tree Hill Complete Seasons 1-6 DVD Boxset
NCIS Seasons 1-6 DVD Boxset
Scrubs Seasons 1-8 DVD Boxset
