Who Will They Attract? In terms of a new album, who do you guys think will they attract most?
If you think about it, they stopped making music 7 years ago. It's been 12 years since MCIS. The casual fan who loved BWBW and 1979 on the radio is now 12 years older, will they be interested?
There will be the die hard fans, I'm sure, that will adore it, but my wonderment lies in whether or not the Pumpkins will have the appeal to the new generation.
Let's face it, this new generation of teens would much rather listen to Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance and Green Day more than anything. Quite frankly, I would rather those people not taint the TSP fanbase.
I'm kinda ranting here.. but yea, do you guys think they will sell?

I think the beiggest thing I'm afraid of is that because they know so little about the Pumpkins (and their signifigance in the 90's), they may be labeled. Billy did say that it was SD cross MCIS with a new twist (maybe it tastes like lemon?).

I would cry if they were labelled emo. Oh geez I would cut myself. (Yes, I know that wasn't funny)

As long as it's not cherry.

Back in 96 I think, one of the first chatrrooms my brother and I visited was some SP site called 1979 on something like that. (we have not visited a chat room since probably 1998). Anyways one of the few people in there was some girl who seemed preoccupied in telling us that she was obsessed with 'cutting' herself, true story. So I guess SP always attracted the emo crowd, even if they didn't necessarily want them ;).

Argh!
Just cos some one is a self harmer doesn't mean they're emo.

Honestly, I agree. I don't think the people who listen to the punk and emo crap are going to be interested, and I also really hope they aren't. It reminds me of when Linkin Park released Meteora. I didn't care for the album too much, but I loved the song "Breaking the Habit" because of the meaning behind it. Then (whether it was WB or LP themselves) BTH was released, and all the pathetic emo kids listened to the song and, in my eyes, tainted the song. It was a very personal song that should have never been released and listened to a generation that doesn't care about what it really means. I still love the song, but it doesn't mean as much as it did before it was released as a single.
But all things put aside, I think it only really matters if you, the pumpkin fan, enjoy the new music. If the new album gets commercial success or not, it's all about the music. If you enjoy it, thats all that matters.

I guess I'm also afraid of them becoming a fashion acssessory.

well a lot of the emo bands take their cues from sp, does that help to ease your troubles... probabnly not
honeslty i dont care cos i just want them back and i can allways say i was a fan before all the emos hopped on te bandwagon

Did billy really say that it's gonna sound like SD cross MCIS with a new twist? When did he say this?
I think it depends on how much airplay the singles/videos are going to have on radio and tv. And it depends on what the album will sound like. A Siamese Dream-type sound will not attract emo kids, while a Machina-like album might as well be something for the emos.

I actually can't remember where I saw it even, but I remember it... I think.

i think they're going back to their roots
the last song they ever made did that (untitled)
i hope billy has given up on the machina sound and goes prog

I'm with you on that one. As far as the production goes, I don't think we have to worry about another machina-like sounding album.

Are you talking about the actual sound (production) or style (actual music)? As far as production goes, I think it wansn't so good. Music was good, although there were about 4 or 5 songs which i thought could have done better.
Gnomestar- 02-21-2007
music not production, although production like their earlier stuff would help, their last 2 albums were too "clean"
but i mean, machina was muchc mroe quitar driven and just wasnt quite as intelligent, i think billy spent too much time on his whole glass thing and putting secret messages in but the music istelf isnt quite as clever as it used to be, seems a tad mroe radio friendly (although not every song is obv)
i prefer that dirty prof style, where songs dont go verse chorus verse chorus solo/bridge chorus end
