Melissa Back?
Posted January 22, 2007 on sputnikmusic.com It seems like the reuinion of the Smashing Pumpkins gets clearer shapes and outlines. Apart from a tour for their upcoming reunion album, details surfaced about the reuinion-cast. Apart from front-man Billy Corgan and drummer Billy Chamberlain, it seems that Melissa auf der Maur will join the band once again. According to Warner Music, the new album will be released in summer this year. After various news regarding the new album (like Chamberlain and Corgan posting in the official MySpace-Blog of the band), Warner Music now stated in a recent mailing: "Word is on the streets that there will be live dates for this summer, June to be more precise". According to labelinformation yet to be confirmed, the place on the bass will be taken once again by Melissa auf der Mauer. Auf der Maur replaced D'Arcy Wretzky in earlier Pumpkins-years and mentioned that she would be interested in a band-reunion. This does not come as a big suprise though, as she kept good relations with Corgan after the Pumpkins-split. As Corgan, D'Arcy and ex-guitarist James Iha have not spoken to each other in years adds to this.

There was no source given. Some people on other boards were speculating that the 'source' was just that off-hand statement Melissa made last year ,saying she would be willing to play bass if Billy needed her to. I was initially excited about this after reading it to quickly (one of the SP fan pages on myspace posted a blog yesterday). But everyone should read this thing over again. The person refers to Jimmy Chamberlin as "Billy Chamberlain" lol. If the person can't even get that right, I don't think they can be trusted as a source of news. Besides, anyone who is a registered user on that site appears to be able to post a fake news story whenever they want. Sorry to say, but upon further review, the claims of Melissa being in the band are greatly exaggerated. If Melissa somehow does end up in the band, it will be by pure coincidence.

It would be kinda surprising for James and D'arcy not to have spoken to each other, they both do own Scratchie after all.

There's so little news at this point, I'm excited about anything :P

D'arcy is not actively involved with Scratchie anymore. That being said, I don't know if she gets some sort of checks from it for co-founding thing or something like that :/.
