First Pumpkins Memory?
I was just thinking about how I really got into the Pumpkins. My problem is that I actually have no idea how... I remember watching the Ava Adore video on TV. It crepped me out. Regardless, I think I liked it and asked for "Adore" for Christmas. I then remember watching BWBW on TV and thought it was catchy. Then I think at that point, I started visiting websites and stuff and found out about TAFH. At that point, I assumed it was like a grea-*test*-('") hits kinda box, cause I was still an ignorant fool. Regardless, I wanted it, found it, and bought it (thank goodness I did). And then I remember asking for the grea-*test*-('") hits video collection and grea-*test*-('") hits CD for Christmas and I got them both. However, it wasn't even until maybe 2 years ago that I *really* got into them. As much as I started collecting their stuff, I never bothered to look past the singles until a few years ago. Anyways.. what about everyone?

I grew up listening to BWBW, 1979, Today, and Tonight Tonight since the radiostation my family listens to plays those songs a ton. Plus, my parents have basically the same musical taste that I do, so I was exposed at a young age. One day, I heard Zero on the radio for the first time. I didn't know what it was called but I really liked it, so I memorized some of the lyrics and googled it when I got home, and found that I owned MCIS. I listened to it a bit, but mostly was just searching for the hits (where is that Rat in a Cage song?? :wink:). Shortly thereafter, I bought the Grea-*test*-('") Hits album and Cherub Rock intrigued me further. I bought Siamese Dream around the time that I bought Machina too... and it was Machina that sealed the deal. Took me a while to make my way over to Adore and Gish, but by the time I did, I was hooked. My collection has expanded steadily since.

I think I heard the name tossed around a bit when I was young (maybe because of the Simpsons' apearance?), anyway, the first time I saw or heard any of the Pumpkins that I can remember was seeing The Everlasting Gaze when I was about 10, and it scared the shit out of me (I spent my whole life until about 13/14 listening to the local commercial radio station, so I've been listening to pop most of my life *sigh*, by the way, Triple J is awesome). Anyway, I remember them playing 1979 once and I just loved it, so I got it off the net at first, then I found a copy of Rotten Apples and bought it. Let me tell you, Rotten Apples is the best place to start. Then I got a copy of the Grea-*test*-('") Hits DVD for my birthday. I decided to watch the Jonas Akurland film, Try, which kinda put me off the Pumpkins for a little while. Then i found another copy of Rotten Apples, but this one came with Judas 0, and I was absolutely hooked from there. Ever since I've been getting as much of their stuff as I can.
